About Me
My name is Katherine Jurasin!
I am a retired classroom teacher of 34 years, with classroom experience in grades 1,2,3, and 5. I love teaching reading, math, writing, study skills, and even English as a second language. I am an expert at assessing learning needs and getting kiddos where they need to be.
Over the past seven years I have been an online tutor, which has allowed me to accumulate a wide array of virtual manipulatives and a vast leveled, digital reading library. I have fiction and nonfiction selections at every reading level sure to grab even the most resistant reader's interests.
I have been married to Joe for 38 years! We have 2 adult children who are both married, and they have given us 4 sweet grandchildren! We have one tiny 13 year old Yorkie named Rosie who rules the house.
I started Early Bird Tutoring to give students a learning option that doesn't get in the way of the rest of their day. My students can enjoy all of the after school offerings that they like, even if that is just playing outside.
I have chosen to teach online for a number of reasons. One, it gives families flexibility as their students can learn from anywhere! Two, it gives parents a driving break. You have to run around enough! Three, it gives me flexibility to teach from anywhere, allowing me to visit my grandchildren often and do the things I love to do.
I love swimming, paddleboarding, fishing, snowshoeing, playing board games, and reading. When I grow up I want to be an author of children's books. I have already written a few stories! My grandchildren say that I am already grown-up. I say, "NEVER!!"

Reading Grades K-6
I am an expert at assessing reading needs and designing instruction to give you a reader that is accurate, fluent, expressive, and has excellent comprehension. I have a large, digital, full color fiction and non-fiction library sure to capture any learner's interests! Struggling reader? Challenge accepted!
Math Grades K-3
I am an expert at assessing math needs and designing instruction to give you a mathematician that is accurate, flexible, confident, and logical. I only teach up through 3rd grade, as that is where my experience with hands-on math has been. I teach what your schools expect, but always bridge those methods to the way parents learned math. I have excellent virtual math resources to keep learning fun! Struggling mathematician? Challenge accepted!
Writing Grades K-6
I am an expert at assessing writing needs and designing instruction to move your student forward. I can help your writer with basic letter formation, neatness, presentation, sentence formation, paragraph formation, report writing, and even story writing! Struggling writer? Challenge accepted!
